This year was the biggest Thanks Day ever, with about 1,000 people attending including families from the slum, sponsors and supporters from around the world, and many local, national and international guests. The chief guest was the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who applauded Tong-Len and Jamyang, saying that the achievements of the charity and its founder are an inspiration to the whole world. |
Professor Ajay Srivastava also paid tribute to the charity, highlighting the achievement of the slum children who were previously not considered part of society and now, through Tong-Len, have a future.
The theme that was chosen by the students for the day was ‘ethics in education’ The highlight was the wonderful performances of the children – guests were treated to a feast of dances, songs and a debate. Tong-Len awards were presented to three individuals and three organisations. The day ended with a delicious meal served to all 1,000 people, which was prepared by the amazing Tong-Len kitchen staff in their tiny kitchen, with help from some of the students. It was a wonderful day of celebration, reflection, gratitude and entertainment.
