Work has started on building new shelters for the residents of the Chetru slum who lost their homes and meagre belongings to the flood waters.
The local authority has allowed new shelters to be built on a piece of land close to Sarah village, not far from the Tong-Len school. Tong-Len has been working with the local authority and NGOs in this resettlement process. Each family has been provided with building materials and home essentials such as bedding. The land has a well for clean water and piped water has been promised in due course. A local NGO working on hygiene projects has offered to construct composting toilets.
