His Holiness the 17th  Gyalwang Karmapa inaugurated the new hostel on the 19th November.  This fine building complements the first two hostels that were completed in 2011 and will enable an additional 48 children to be accommodated and allowing them to attend full time education. Its construction was made possible through the generosity of the Fontana Foundation.  Tong-Len was delighted that Mario Fontana, the founder of the foundation, together with members of his family and team, were able to attend the inauguration event which included the annual thanks day celebration, Tong-Len’s 11th.

On Thanks Day occasions, it has become the custom to honour those who have made a significant contribution in assisting deprived and disadvantaged people.  This year awards were made to Tsering Dolma, who has worked tirelessly amongst Tibetan patients in Chandigarh hospitals, the Jagori Rural Charitable Trust for its work in combating all forms of discrimation in rural areas, particularly among women, and Mario Fontana, for his charitable work worldwide.

The hostel children and those from the tuition tents in Charan gave delightful performances in song and dance, which were greatly appreciated by all those who attended, including the friends and families of all the children.
